Philosophy
April Barry has been practicing for over 10 years, she is committed and passionate about her work. She comes from the perspective that therapy is a very private and personal relationship that is enhanced by mutual respect. April cares deeply about social justice, holistic health and the inclusion of mind, body and spirit as central to our way of being in the world. She will take her time to create a co-operative and transparent relationship with her clients.
April focuses on helping clients realize and achieve their true potential in therapy and tailor therapy to each unique individual. April focuses on the client's strengths, values, and underlying resilience, combining different therapeutic tools and approaches to fit the needs of each individual so that you can achieve and improve the quality of your life and mental health. April incorporates several evidenced-based interventions and theoretical orientations, including cognitive-behavioral, cognitive process, strength-based therapy, trauma informed care, narrative therapy and mindfulness to ensure positive change and emotional well-being by creating a safe space for you to share your thoughts, feelings, and perspectives about your life experience. Therapy outcome research demonstrates that the relationship between client and therapist are central to the healing process and for change to occur, and April strives to create the positive therapeutic environment for this collaborative relationship to thrive.

For the times you feel you have thoughts and feelings you cannot share with anyone, meeting with a therapist offers a contained space to reveal these parts of yourself. In my office, there is no right way to be in therapy. You are not the only person who might feel like a fraud in your own life. The unending thoughts about yourself or your life that are not so kind can stop. I welcome the full expression of the complexity of your emotions and experience.
My clients report that I have calm and non-judgmental presence that makes it easy to talk about things you usually feel you cannot reveal.
Together, we find new ways for you to cope better with whatever is troubling to you. It is possible to reclaim your power in a world that feels chaotic, to make choices that will help lead you to have a more meaningful and fulfilling life and gain insight. The quickest way to reach me is by leaving a phone message or sending a direct email.
Seeking professional support and guidance can make a significant difference. Therapy promotes lasting change and can activate inner insights and resources that will continue to grow and develop long after therapy ends. I look forward to supporting you on your journey of inner-discovery and path toward wellness and positive change.
Your therapy plan will be tailored to meet your needs. Some people complete short term therapy in five to six sessions. Others have more complex issues that require longer term therapy. It is not unusual to be engaged in therapy for three months to a year. Typically, you will meet with your therapist on a weekly basis. Once you experience progress, you may move to biweekly or monthly appointments depending upon your goals.
